  • orthodontic options Frankfort orthodontist

It is common to be nervous the first time you get braces.  You’re not sure what to expect and there are varying orthopedic options for each unique case.  As the orthodontist Frankfort patients trust for their smiles and braces, know that you’ve come to the right place.  Our team is here to help you understand your options and get the smile you deserve.  Let’s look at some of the common questions our Frankfort orthodontist is often asked and hopefully put your mind at ease.

    Do braces hurt?

Getting braces does not hurt.  Brackets are applied to the teeth with an adhesive glue and then wires are placed in the brackets and held in place by small rubber bands.  What causes a bit discomfort is when your braces get adjusted.  This is a minimal, short-lasting experience as your teeth and bones become accustomed to the adjustment.  The adjustment of braces is just a tightening of the wire so that slight pressure is applied to the correct teeth that need to move so you have a straighter smile and straighter teeth.  It is this pressure that your body and teeth respond to.  Our Frankfort orthodontist is here to help you be as comfortable and pain-free as possible.  We’ll help you understand how to lessen any discomfort.

    Reducing the discomfort of braces

When you wear braces, you will visit our Frankfort orthodontist throughout the course of your treatment so we can make small adjustments.  This process gradually moves the teeth into place.  Over the counter pain medication, when taken as directed, is one of the easiest ways to make you comfortable.  You can also eat soft foods on the day of your braces adjustment.  Any pressure you feel from the adjustment typically only lasts for less than 24 hours.  Soft foods don’t add extra work for your teeth while they become accustomed to their new positioning.

    Patience and Time

Getting braces is a game of patience.  Know that your care and dedication to your oral health will soon produce amazing results.  Yes, it’s a process, but one that will reward you the rest of your life.  Getting used to braces is an adjustment, but worth the effort.
